Bitte beachten Sie, dass dieser Vortragsabend nicht wie sonst üblich, im Rükontor an der Rüttenscheider Straße 144, sondern im Saal des katholischen Stadthauses Essen, Bernestraße 5, 45127 Essen stattfinden wird. Das Haus befindet sich in der Stadtmitte und liegt direkt neben der Alten Synagoge.
German tourists, who want to explore the United Kingdom, will either travel to London or choose a roundtrip through „Rosamunde Pilcher countryside“ in the South of England or Scotland as a destination for their holidays. The territory from the North of Oxford to the South of Hadrian`s wall is largely unknown, and does not feature highly in our catalogues.
Wrongly so! Germans don’t know, what they are missing: The breathtaking beauty of the Yorkshire dales and the Lake District, the warmheartedness of the “ Northeners“ and – not least – the resurgence of cities such as Manchester and Liverpool, the beacons of football and pop music.
Our lecturer, Neil Deane, who is a most dedicated scouse (a popular word for a „Liverpuddlian“) will take us on a tour through the city of Liverpool, which is the home of Liverpool football club and the Beatles, who made such a spectacular appearance in the Gruga Hall back in June 1966. It is a tribute to his fellow citizens.
Ever since our very own Jürgen Klopp arrived at Anfield Road, the football club is in the limelight of every football supporter between Dortmund and Essen.
Football and pop music and much, much more… But what about the mysterious title of the
lecture: „Liverpool: Gateway to Heaven and Hell“?
There does appear to be a darker side to Liverpool; after all it is called „a city on the edge“
Although Neal Deane left Liverpool in 1979, he still has a close relationship to his fellow citizens, recalling both the positive and the negative sides of his personal experiences – with passion and love.
